creating backlinks

is it better to create all backlinks to the homepage or does creating backlinks to other pages on my site help as well?

I would try and spread out the backlinks if possible... but if the links you are working for target a certain keyword for a certain page (and that is the homepage), then you should just link it back to the home page

IE if your home page you want to target "Keyword 1" then yes point it back to the home page

rule-of-thumb: make the backlinks link to the most relevant page on your site. that might mean you'll be linking to the homepage, or maybe some other page.

I think that it depends which pages you are going to optimize. I have heard that you have one opages to be optimized max fo 3-4 keywords.

I couldn't agree more with this.

Build backlinks to the most relevant and content rich page of your site, not just for SEO purposes but for the direct traffic you get from those backlinks

I would definitely agree with shockie as the value of the backlinks favor the most relevant or the most important page which is to be optimized.
You should never stuff up all the backlinks at a single page as it would look more like a links page.

relevant backlinks are much acceptable esp when it points to your homepage, from your homepage, you can link back to relative pages of your site.

A balanced link profile is important and deeplinking looks more natural. You want balance. Having 100% of your links going to your homepage doesn't appear natural. Deeplinking also helps distribute pr so that pages don't go supplemental.

Just to add.. building backlinks to dofollow sites or blogs with high PR would also help in PR building

Man please think 10 times before you start hitting 20 posts in a row. All your posts are hanging in air without any meaning. Creating more confusions for others. I think you will understand that we don't allow just post peddling here instead we would like to focus on to the point answers and good conversations.

Basically try ro creat back links ot main page...
but remember also link to other pages too.. i.e. called deep links..
this is also must and good for getting indexed... it works..

Forum link is bit good.. but the best one is social bookmarking back link..
and also try to link exchange with some good pr sites..

Having all links pointing the one page is not the best strategy IMO. Having backlinks to other stronger pages as well is a better option.

Also using 'nofollow' in your internal link structure is useful for controlling the flow of link juice to your strongest pages.

link to domain url ... (www.youdomain.com - not even; www.yourdomain.com/index.htm) this way your entire url gains strength with most SE's - and any pages/folders within will have same seo benefits from the backlinks

At first, only create back links for the home page. Then after some time, start to build back links for your home page + inner pages.
