Question on pagerank

I made a mistake and purchased a PR4 domain (actually picked up a dropped domain) with a good name. I thought that it was valid, but after checking on a few different pagerank checker websites, I found out that it isn't valid and it's point to another domain name. My question is if I use the domain name for just trying to boost my search engine position, does google look at it as a PR0 or will it see it as a PR4 and I will get the benefit.

Any help would be appreciated.

pagerank has extremely little (if anything) to do with rankings on search engine result pages. the websites that show up in search engines have likely undergone search engine optimization.

Then this domain is as good as a newly regged one. There is nothing in PR to be considered in this domain name. If the PR was valid one then atleast you could count on its existing links and make a similar niche website on that domain name.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/search-engines/383490-question-on-pagerank.html

But as this PR is invalid there is nothing to be gained from it.

usually after a re-caching of the website that you are going to make on that domain, if the PR stays, then it will become a valid PR agian! most likely the PR will drop!

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important.”
Not saying you specifically need PR alone to rank but it is certainly a not to be underestimated factor that can help.

i would say that keywords in the domain play a much bigger role. so if you're looking to get a good boost in your position on serps, then you're better off finding a domain that has your keywords in it, than to use a pr4 domain that doesn't.

pagerank is probably one of the last factors considered by google when showing search results, which is why you don't see all the pr9 and pr10 sites even on the 10th (maybe even 20th) page of serps for any given keyword.

quyloc is an unknown quantity at this point

You should use fake pagerank detection tool to confirm if your PR is valid. If it's valid you can benefit from it for sure
