Don't Expect Any PageRank Updates...

Don't Expect Any PageRank Updates, Says Matt Cutts
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/search-engines/375063-dont-expect-any-pagerank-updates.html

After my post about how people really want to find Matt Cutts, Matt kindly poked in on things at DigitalPoint Forums. In the thread, he is quoted as saying that you should not expect any PageRank updates:

As far as the toolbar PageRank, I definitely wouldn't expect to see it in the next few days. Probably not even in the next couple weeks, if I had to guess.

This thread was picked up by the MarketFederation blog and has become a topic of discussion on Sphinn.

The response is overwhelmingly unanimous to remove PageRank altogether. Some members are just totally overwhelmed by the amount of PageRank updates; they want it to cease existing so that they don't have to hear about it anymore.

This isn't surprising. Maybe Google is listening to the PageRank removal feedback and is secretly seeking out PageRank alternatives. That doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Forum discussion continues on Sphinn. Additional coverage on related topics (Google banning directories) has also been discussed.

I agree page rank is just stupid now. We have massive sites with great PR that camp the #1 spot in everything.

Just about any term I can think of when I google it Wikipedia is always in the top 5. Even for business related information sites.

I hope they keep PR.

Okay, it's only a rough measure, but it does tell you whether a site is well-established (I'd be more cautious about giving my credit card details to a grey-bar or low-PR site, because for all I know it could have been put up yesterday and be taken down tomorrow). Besides, it's fun to gradually move up the PR ladder with your own sites.

How much PR should affect SERPs is a completely different question. I think it's probably been devalued enough now, but even if PR had nothing at all to do with SERPs I'd still like there to be a little splash of green on the toolbar to tell me how much a site matters in the grand scheme of things.

I totally agree with WhiteWebServices on this one, it does help quite a bit in seeing how well established certain websites are.

I say good riddance. I hope that means sites that have just spent cash to get super high PR back links with little to no other effort will just drop off the SERPS soon!

When paid-backlinks are filtered out, high PR for a short time is difficult. kekeke
