Introduction:
Social Media is the perfect solution to create your own video sharing and uploading community just like Youtube, Myspace and Metacafe.

Our goal with Social Media was to combine the video / media sharing capabilities of YouTube with the social networking functionality of MySpace. Social Media allows you to start a community whereby users can create their own unique profile, interact with other members and upload / share their own media files such as videos, pictures and audio.

Key Features In The New V2.1:
Forum Integration:
Forums are a great way to build a community. With the release of V2.1, we have added the ability to integrate Social Media with the following forum software with the click of a button: VBulletin, Invision Power Board, Simple Machines Forum, PHPBB, MyBB.

Paid Subscription Packages:
For those of you who offer premium videos, Social Media now has paid subscription packages. If enabled, admins can create packages which users can then purchase to gain access to restricted areas of your site or to upgrade their account usage. For each package, you can set a defined amount of useable space and bandwidth, and you can even assign package subscribers to a new user group! PayPal and Authorize.net are currently supported.

Webcam Recorder Upload:
Just like YouTube! Users can now record videos directly via their webcam and upload them to your website. This allows your members to easily record video blogs, or even leave a response to other uploaded media.

Video Preview When You Hover Over A Thumbnail:
As seen on many popular video sharing sites, users can now watch a sneak peak of each video by simply hovering their mouse over the thumbnail while browsing videos.

Key Features:
Social Media is packed full of features. Listing them all would take pages, so instead I have listed only a few of the key features below. For a complete list of features, please refer to the Social Media feature list.

Advanced Member Profiles:
Each member can create their own unique profile. Unlike MySpace, Social Media uses advanced ajax and javascript to allow complete customisation without the member needing knowledge of html / css. A few profile features have been listed below. For a complete overview, feel free to create your own member account on the Social Media demo.

• Moveable Boxes:
  Members can move their boxes into new positions using “drag and drop”. Box positions are saved after each move.
• Box Colours:
  Members can set unique colours for each profile box. If saved, these colours are updated instantly using ajax. Admins can also set pre-defined profile layouts if the user does not wish to modify each box colour individually.
• Create New Boxes:
  Members can create their own profile boxes, and add their own content or widgets such as FLV players or other flash content. They can also rename the title of the box, and even add an RSS feed.
• Other Profile Features:
  Members can also completely modify their profile CSS. For beginners, there is also a “Simple Profile Editor” which enables members to change all profile colours with the click of a button.
  

Media Uploading:
Social Media accepts all well known media formats, including videos, images, audio and flash files. Additional formats can easily be added via the admin panel. A variety of methods can be used to add media to your site, a few of which have been listed below.

• File Uploads - Original method. Using a regular file uploader or the included flash uploader
• Mobile Phone Upload - Members can upload media directly from their mobile phones using MMS
• Embed Code - Ability to add media as an embed code from other sites, for example a YouTube video
• Media From Server (Admin Only) - A great way to mass-add media. Files can be added which have been uploaded to your server via FTP.
• Media Plugs (Admin Only) - Admins can add media plugs which look like regular media files, however in fact redirect the user to another site.

Flash Uploader:
Other YouTube clones require special server tools in order to have a fancy uploader. With Social Media, this is not the case. Social Media uses a flash uploader which includes a progress bar (Which also displays bytes uploaded, estimated time etc). The flash uploader also helps over come time out problems which occur with many other scripts.

Flash (FLV) Player:
Social Media comes complete with a custom FLV Player. Our FLV Player is packed with features, such as; water marking; users can drag the video left or right to fast forward; email to friend option; share link / embed code; player guide once video has ended; slow motion; full screen; sound controls; player settings (video smoothing, contrast etc). We also include a complete skin file which enables you to change the entire FLV player skin to match your site.

• In Player Video Advertisement Pop-Ups
  Admins can set advertisements which pop-up while a video is playing. Check out our live demo to see this feature in action.
• Video Commercials
  Admins can set commercials which are played either before or after the actual video is played. This commercial can be clicked and taken to a site of you choice (A great way to advertise!).

FLV Video Conversion / Thumbnail Generation:
Social Media has the ability to convert all uploaded videos to FLV format, and to automatically generate a thumbnail for these videos. Admins can control all settings related to FLV conversion via the admin panel, including encoding quality and resizing.

Member Features:
One main focus of Social Media was to help maximise member interaction on your site. In turn, Social Media includes a range of member features (Too many to describe here). Instead, I have listed a few of the main member modules that Social Media has to offer.

• Favourite Media
• Private Messaging System
• Blogs
• Groups
• Photo Albums
• Media / Member Subscriptions
• Media Playlists
• Bulletins
• Friends Lists / Block Lists

Server Balancing / Loading:
Media sharing websites can cause quite high server loads if you have high amounts of traffic. To help resolve this issue, Social Media has a server loading feature which enables you to setup multiple servers which help stream your media. If slave servers are enabled, media will be uploaded and streamed from these servers, thus saving space and bandwidth on your main server.

Multi-Language Support:
Social Media has an in-built language system which enables you to offer multiple languages to your members. Admins can set a default language, then members can select their own language from their account settings.

Template Engine:
Social Media has an in-built template engine which completely separates the template html from the programming code. This enables template designers to modify the entire design without needing any programming knowledge what-so-ever. The entire theme can be modified from the admin panel.

Looks like a great script - and I already own a copy of Advanced Arcade so I know how well-coded a MediaScripts product is... But nearly $200 for a YouTube clone seems an awfully large sum to pay when there are very similar scripts out there for $10 - and even one for free.

Thank you Jazzi. While they may look similar from the outside, there are a lot more aspects that need to be looked at.

#1. Compare the features. I can guarantee that Social Media has a lot more features than most other YouTube clones on the market.

#2. Coding quality. A lot of the other YouTube clones on the market were based off the same script which was originally created by a freelancer developer. Social Media was built from scratch and if you compare the coding to the other YouTube clones you will see exactly what I mean when it comes to the quality of coding used.

#3. Support. While you may be able to purchase other scripts for US$10, in reality you get what you pay for. A lot of these other companies don't even support on weekends. We take an interest in all of our customers and our work hours usually range from 8AM - 2AM, 7 days a week in order to provide support to our customers situated across the world in all different time zones.
