Tracking users?

Hi.

I [want to] use affiliation adverts on my site, and I was wondering if there is an easy way to track a user from my site to the affiliates site and "track" what they do, so when they "complete an offer" (by clicking on an affiliate link and buying something) I can make sure that they (by username) has acctually completed the offer?

I know its a little vague, but I am really looking for a knowledge-base or tutorial.

Thanks
Tom

most likely you would have to have your afflite have an API (most do) that you can connect and see what they have done... some what like paypal has it... for instant payment notification but for a different set of data....

so you mean, contact my affiliates and ask them for this API thing?

What will it tell me?

I am probably going to use programs/websites like affiliate future. Do you know if these websites have "automatic tracking" facilities?

Thanks for you post BTW
