Caution CSS Help... ASAP... :-s

Need help ASAP...

I am making a script for a client: here is [part of] the CSS I am using:

Code:
a{
     color: #ffffff;
}

.first{
     background-color: #ffffff;
     color: #000000;
}
Here is the code I want to apply it to:
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/programming/68353-css-help-asap-s.html

Code:
<table>
<tr>
<td class="first"><a href="a-page.php">Text</a></td>
</tr>
</table>
this unfortunately displays the link as white so that it dosen't show up in the background! How would I make it so that in a "td" with the class "first", links are displayed in black?

Thanks in advance!

Animal Rescue Wildlife Animal Cruelty
.first a {color:#000 }

couppi is an unknown quantity at this point

Yes, in fact, there is. Oh, and by the way, #FFFFFF is white. I don't exactly feel like typing, but it uses Javascript to redefine a CSS defintion of your background. Look around for a tutorial. I looked but couldn't find one.

huh? I know #ffffff is white, but the link was also white so therefore it wouldn't show up infront of of the background color
