I'm not sure where to post this but...
I need to make a navigational menu similar to the one along ther top of this page: http://www.hollandamerica.com/home.htm?flash=skip
I've tried checking the source code but I'm still confused. Could anyone please help me with coding this time of menu?

I checked it out, and they only have DHTML scripts. It will only work in Internet Explorer//Windows. There has to be a javascript for that, I just don't how to program it. What I do know is that most menus like that are done in Macromedia Fireworks. Just get the trial and use that (actually, when I downloaded the Flash Professional trial they forgot to put in the registry that it was a trial. I'm still using it right now. They fixed it though; my friend got it and it expired).

Well I believe DHTML would be more professional but you can use flash do a froogle for flash liscenses can get them fairly cheap.

sorry, let me explain

once upon a time there was the internet and for a time, it was good. all browsers lived in peace. but then bill gates got the idea that to get more people to use internet explorer, they could make languages that only IE could use. So they made ActiveX. ActiveX created a new type of internet in which programmers could use the same methods they used in applications on the internet.

The security was breached. Now hackers could install things on computers without owner's knowledge (ie. spyware), look at people's files, and find out their passwords and access documents that were previously secure. So netscape made a new language: javascript. Javascript was very similar to C++, Java, and other well known languages. The difference was it could only affect things inside the browser.

Microsoft created JScript, a bad copy of Javascript. To make the internet better, Netscape gave Javascript out freely, and Microsoft accepted it. But, selfishly, they continued to work on JScript and eventually made DHTML.

At this point in time the w3c formed and created 'suggestions' which are now know as standards. They created XHTML and CSS which revolutionized the way people program web pages. Netscape (which by this time was also Mozilla) bided by these standards, and still are to this day. Though IE allowed CSS and XHTML, they changed several things from the standards, and since they have over 90% of users, the majority of programmers program incorrectly.

But now, with the uproar of spyware, more and more people are turning to Mozilla Firefox. Microsoft is slowly getting the picture, and, though these are just rumors, Longhorne might not be explorer based (as windows is) and internet explorer 7 (releasing with longhorne) might comply with standards.

Now that Google is becoming more and more powerful, they are (once again, rumor) creating a browser, based on mozilla, that will put IE6 out of commission. Think about it, more people use google than windows. When people go to search, they will see the browser and get it!

And where does DHTML go in to all that? IT DOESN'T. That's why you should use only XHTML, Javascript, and CSS. (excluding all the server side languages)
