having a css problem

I'm trying to float a div but it's messing up everything else. The div I'm trying to float is actually going to be floating over the intersection of three other divs. Every time I put it there, though, the other divs move out of its way. How does a person float a div over other divs without them moving away?

In order to do this, you have to use the z-index element.

Here's a quick tutorial on how to use it:

And here's a description on how the element actually works:

Well, it adds to my little green bars on the left side here.

Sometimes they don't turn green, however. For some reason, yours was nullified or something.

Either way, I appreciate it, and I'm glad I could help you.
