css problems with ie, and a couple other things

hi all,

i realize i should take three months off to learn css, but clients keep getting in the way. i’m SO hoping someone here can help, so i can get this site up between jobs.

the site is here —>> http://www.katzidesign.com/katz/index9.htm

problem #1: when viewed in ie, the left nav disappears. seems this is a common problem, but with a search i cannot find how to fix it.

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/programming/44641-css-problems-ie-couple-other-things.html
problem #2: the rollover grey is not even. two of the grey backgrounds are messed up.

the nav used to disappear totally [as did the footer links], but i found a fix that brought them back [until rolled over anyway].

half the answer to the problem i found here -->> http://www.dracos.co.uk/web/css/ie6floatbug/

here's the css -->> http://www.katzidesign.com/katz/index8.css

problem #3: i've rigged up the top nav by using the space bar for spacers, but i’m sure it’s not the way to go. if anyone has some suggestions, please share. eveything i tried by skimming the books has not worked.

if you see anything else that is not the proper way to do css, please let me know.

css level = low
operating system = osx
software = dwmx2004
