Selling me API for $X,XXX. What is this API?

I'm dealing with a company that provides xml feed.

They said that I can use their xml feed or buy their API for $X,XXX.

Is this API a script that I can install on my server to parse the xml feed?

This particular API is XML SOAP (not sure what it means)

I'm confused.

Thanks.

Buying their API sounds like it means you can provide the API to your customers too.

oh
Thanks Daniel

I forgot to include that they've said I can purchase their custom xml interface (once again, I'm not sure what this means).

Okay,
I called them, and I've figured it out.
I have to purchase their api to access their xml.

You could create an extremely successful site with the right data, if it's the right API for you, and you can see a good business plan in the future. It can be worth it, definitely.
