new technology?

I have a quick question. Lately when I read the latest news on all the new start ups.. They say they design new technology. Yet anybody could build something like this with a decent langauge ide and time.. Why is it called new technology? I don't quite understand 8(.

Well, I suppose it is new technology for such things as AJAX. As they weren't supported by the browsers years ago. And now we're moving towards XSLT as well, which isn't too well supported at the moment, but will still be awesome when it arrives.

AJAX has been supported by browsers for a long time. All it is, is javascript that calls xml from an external source.

there you have it, they are investing time to create something which they believe does not currently exist. whether they make it out of steel or silicon or 1's and 0's does not make it any less new

I'm aware of what it does, but I'm merely remarking that it could be considered a new technology, although not new to me, maybe you as well, we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg with AJAX - websites will start looking more and more like web applications every day. Thus a company would be tempted to class it as new whether it is indeed a new technology or not. The word new is often just used for marketing purposes.
