Sending Drop Down Menu value to hidden field

I have a drop down menu (let's user picked a date). Then the user will fill out a form with requests. How can I take the value of the drop down menu, and transfer it to a hidden field? Right now I have a 1 row by 2 column table that has a loop (loops 10 times). I want the value of the drop down menu to go to the hidden field so it will be inserted into the database with each of the 10 records. Is there an easy way of doing this? Am I doing this incorrectly? Much thanks for your help

Edit: Why can't you just use $_POST['drop_down_name']; to get what they've entered?
