From who? Stay away from rails, trust me.

Stick with PHP/AJAX.

There are lot of better languages than Ruby. Phyton and PHP are two of these. As far as Ruby on Rails framework is concerned, PHPCake is similar to Ruby on Rails. However, DjangoProject for Phyton is praised a lot.

Ruby on Rails is just a new buzz, it's powerful but more complex than other languages.

monaco will become famous soon enough

Also there's more support in both the programmer side and the server support side for PHP than there is for RoR.

guillermobt is on a distinguished road

I would add a recommendation for using Ajax and DOM elements access, management and "magic" in general.

Use the javascript library "Prototype" (www.prototypejs.org). You may want also to have a look to the EXT library, another "gem" (www.extjs.com).

Regards.
