Creating a site with database

I currently am wanting to get a project up that will serve the community very well, well every community, i am not going to post what it is, i'd like to find out afew things first, so i can begin writing the script/codes and begin puting the site so i can finish it.
Site description:
I want to be able to have a set up where people can post stories, attach images, view others stories and have a admincp that can control it all, I am wondering what would be the best code for me to study or base it on, i would like to try code this myself.
I figure a database is going to be needed to store it all, also need something as the backend,
could anybody push me into the right direction?
Thanks.

I'd go with PHP for the language and MySQL for the database backend. The reason being is that almost every host out there supports PHP and MySQL so you'll have more freedom in picking one.

And PHP/MySQL are incredibly widely used, so you'll be able to get support in loads of places.

I'm confused...what exactly is your question then? Or did this thread answer your question?

Lenz is on a distinguished road

If you haven't used PHP/MySQL before, I suggest you take a look at the open-source CMS Drupal and hire a coder at Guru.com. Don't do it on your own, it's not going to work out well.

I wouldn't say that...you're just gonna scare him that way

Seriously though, while learning a new programming language *can* be difficult, PHP is one of the easiest. I picked up PHP in about an hour when I first exposed myself to it, but then again, I'm a software engineer, so YMMV on this one. Play with the language first, write some simple apps and play with them on a test box.
