What to use??

Ok heres the deal,

I have been out of the web design area for quite some time, ie the last page i did was frames in html. I know things have come a long way since then. Anyway heres the deal.

Recently my mate asked me to do a web page for him, here are his requirements.

Needs to be easily updated by him
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/programming/32161-what-to-use.html
Loads fairly fast (but not a main priority)
includes feedback forms and polls
and needs to be up failrly soon.

I have a copy of dreamweaver and was wondering what is the best way to set up this site, ie, dynamic etc etc. and are there any good tutorial sites to get me updated fairly quickly as time is against me.

Thanks in advance for your help

Ok mate as i said I have completly lost track of anything in the web design field. Um the server is at my friends business so running anything on it should not be a problem if that is what you are asking, or if you mean what coding to use, i dont really mind whatever is reccommended as i have about zero knowlege pretty much all of the codes. Any other help would appreciated, ie Dreamweaver, how to set up dynamic pages properly, or any relavent tutorial sites.

Sorry about my lack of knowlege but hopefully i can be up to scratch as soon as possible.

right what you need to do then is to find out what the server supports in the way of database and server side (php, asp etc etc)

once this is done you can begin

i would recomend you use php and mysql as the two since i found it very easy to pick up and learn .

others may disegree with me but its my choice and recomendation

Since my last post I have setup mysql and php on the the server. Do i need the full version of mysql to edit/create tables on the remote server or can i just use dreamweaver or mysql administrator interface? What can dreamweaver do to make this process easy for me? now that that stuff is all set up how do i go about making the site and populating it with information.

Thanks in advance

dreamweaver has the power to do alot of work for you which is good

you will need to use a seperate application (i recomend phpmyadmin to set up the database users, and the database with the tables)

then you can use the record set tool in dream weaver to get the data from the server then you can customize it etc etc to suit your needs

Ok tell me if im wrong but u use phpmyadmin, which should be installed onto the server, to create tables and setup users etc etc Then in dreamweaver i can link the data to certain pages.

Whats the best way to edit the database from my computer at home? correct me if im worng but i dont think i can edit it with a mysql admin interface which i have downloaded, do i need to download the actual program and then save the database to the server...?

Thanks for your help i know the more i get into this the less i seem to know, i have learnt alot in the last 24hrs. If you think i will need to know anything else can you point me in the right direction

Cheers

to make the tables and databases you can use phpmyadmin (www.phpmyadmin.net)

its a web based (php) front end for mysql

it gives you total control basically over your mysql server download it, configure it to suit your server and copy to the webserver then run it

then use drewamweaver to build the applications
