if your talking about last modified etc.. you can do it but you'd have to use something like the system command http://www.php.net/system

in the case of last modified you'd want to use the unix command touch, http://www.computerhope.com/unix/utouch.htm

The best example is with mp3 files where it lists the artist, title, track number, etc. It also contains when the file was last modified, etc. All EXIF data is considered metadata as well.

For music files, you mean editing the ID3 tags. www.php.net/id3
I did stuff with them before, but I don't know where it went. I also had another class that edited them if you didn't have the ID3 things installed.

I'm assuming you need to be more specific as to what kind of files you want to edit for us to help as each has its own type of data.
