Anyone Know JAVA (not javascript)

Hey people, anyone here know the JAVA language? I don't know it, I am looking forward to learing this, because I hear that you can do some really cool things, I also here that, grr, I have to download something, can someone help me with this? I want to know how to use JAVA, and, where I need to Download it.

Some tutorials: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/

I'm sure you can find some useful information there.

What are you using java for?

Though a powerful language, there are simpler alternatives available.
