To start with!? What does the experienced developer get then? LOL!

rkahn144, learn the code and do everything in Notepad. If you are looking to sell websites, no idiot is going to pay for something you've made in a WYSIWYG editor like that, with a billion times more code than is needed.

Graphics, if you want something more advanced than Paint, look up GIMP. It's free, and just as good as Photoshop for learners.

I strongly disagree. A newer programmer is going to make mistakes in Notepad, and not see where they are being made. If you want to develop strong and bug-free code, try something like Crimson Editor. Its 100% free and its definitely a lot of help, with Syntax Highlighting for many languages.

If you're looking for a WYSIWYG editor to learn by example, you might want to check out Nvu. It is a free, open-source editor that is available on Windows, Mac and Linux. I have it installed on my Windows and Linux systems and although its not a feature-rich as Dreamweaver, is a great alternative to Dreamweaver and other WYSIWYG applications.

As for graphics, you might want to try GIMP, as previously suggested. It definitely has a learning curve if you want to get into complex graphics, but is definitely sufficient if you want to develop basic, web-based graphics for your site. Paint.NET is looking better and better lately as well.

Check out some other Open Source Graphics Applications here.

Hope that helps.

from basic to advanced, use macromedia dreamweaver and fireworks, for vector images use coreldraw, even if you're amateur someday you'll be an expert, anyways we are all learning and it's continous.

I personally hate Dreamweaver and always use Notepad2 or CuteFTP's file editor (which is basically notepad.) Notepad2 has syntax highlighting and is all I need. Dreamweaver sucks for PHP and I'm not sure why they have it on it.

If you are new, I'd say to use Notepad2 for the highlighting. If the coloring goes wrong, something is wrong.

For designing, I use Photoshop and sometime Illustrator if I feel like it. You can make vectors in Photoshop, it's just not as easy as using Illustrator.
