myBB is really a great forum software, its quite better than the rest and looks a bit like vB as well

I honestly can't belive the amount of people that out PhpBB down.
Yeh sure it has bugs, and can be easily exploited...
But, i have seen exploits for latest version of IPb, and even dos exploits for vBulletin 3.5.3.
And i bet there are alot of vulnerabilities in MyBB, PunBB and SMF etc...
And one good thing about PhpBB, they instantly patch the software up and release updates. They are a great team, and there software is much better than other most free software.
PhpBB for teh win!

phpBB sucks. Invasion Power Board rocks! But it does need to be bought. Well maybe just take mybb or maybe SWF.

On #3, don't get me wrong, even being up to date doesn't mean that it's 100% guaranteed you won't get "hacked". But surely some would have enough common sense that when there are several security fixes released...they should update.
Look at it this way, ANY forum software you use, be it free or paid... it doesn't make one bit of difference really. If a hacker/scriptkiddie wants in, he'll get in, one way or the other. Any forum software can be hacked, even vBulletin (It may be damn hard, but it can be done).
All have thier strengths and weaknesses... phpBB, MyBB, SMF, punBB, etc.. My advice to you would be to install each of them. Give them a try and see which feels best, and you feel most comfortable with.
When and if you do decide to go the paid route, there is no doubt, vBulletin would be your best choice.
