This is my first time to this forum, so hey all! :hi:

Anyway, what I want to do is create a script so that you can check someone’s computer for hardware and list there driver versions. I think cnet use to have a setup like this years ago. Maybe this could be done through system information.

Does anyone know what is involved in this and want sort of technology to use e.g. php, js.

Thanks
Dean

it sure can't be done in PHP because it is server-side, but js possibly. I didn't know you could get that much info from js but maybe. But, your best bet is JS.

I don't think it's possible to get those kinds of variables. OS, IP, and browser can be done easily because they're carried on the browser. But drivers? I don't know.

the only time I've ever seen a website do this is when you had to download an executable which then sent the info back to the site.

Yep. Any script that tries to get data like that will be blocked by any decent firewall.

You'll most likely need to create a JAVA applet or ActiveX object to do this.

Just found another site that does it.

DriverAgent.com

Check it out and let me know what ya's think. They seem to use an xpi or extension for fireworks and a activex for ie.

Yah, that site has you push the button install, which is an ActiveX control. That's the only way possible I think.
