Voted PHP
-------------

CGI is not a language like php. a cgi script is often coded using perl, c, c++, or other popular coding languages. PHP, however, is a scripting language on its own which can be used in conjuction with SQL.

Well that's a good reason. I reworded it a bit lol. I've seen a few forums written with cgi scripts. But the majority are in php.

It is true that there are cgi forums, these are usually done in perl though. I believe i've seen some .asp forums aswell. But i'm not positive, i'm not that familiar with asp though i've been told its a good language to learn for those familiar with visual basic. When i find some free time, outside of work and learning how to use 3d studios max i may take a look at it.

Anyway, when it comes down to it. PHP is by far the best, the flexibility of it, and compatibility when it comes to servers and whatnot, and from my experiance, i'd say PHP.

adam_uk is a jewel in the roughadam_uk is a jewel in the roughadam_uk is a jewel in the rough

Breast Cancer
i chose php

reasons:

cgi seems to be slower to me, cgi scripts have always been hard for me to set up and it seems a bit more rescticted than php

note: i have never gone to type any cgi script at all so i opinions may seem a little bias

Yea, like DarkDevil said CGI isn't a programming/scripting language. I think the question or poll you're probably meaning to ask is actually Perl or PHP. Perl is probably the language that you see most them forums and other cgi scripts coded in.

You can even run PHP as a CGI binary. I run the CGI version of PHP for some command line scripts. #!/usr/bin/php

I like both Perl and PHP. Perl is an entire programming language and PHP is basically a scriptiing language made for the web.

Yeah I read about that when I installed PHP it asked if I wanted to run it as a CGI binary but it said it was suicidal lol.

LOL, it's okay if you're the only one that can run or access it. :webdev:
