Urgent Javascript problem, 45 NP$ to fix.

Hey,

Need some urgent Javascript help.

I got THIS JAVASCRIPT from DynamicDrive.com, and I am trying to implement it in VirtualDN.

The problem is that it is not working. The menu appears properly but will not disappear again when the mouse moves away - a very irritating and unacceptable error.

I've tested the EXACT same code as at DynamicDrive HERE: www.virtualdn.com/vdn.com

But still it will not disappear on vDN! It's THE EXACT SAME CODE.

Anybody that can TEST the script on their own and then provide me with a solution will get the reward, because I don't want to do all the work

i see your problem, the first menu select is appearing without being clicked.. right?

aha i've done it! i am so proud! this is my first time this! w00t! i didn't think i could do it!
it works now on the click, although the first links you click they are now 'javascript:history.go(+1)' not default.htm and default2.htm, this doesn't effect the script so dont worry!

SV: No, that's the WORKING example of what it SHOULD be, showing that it IS STUPID and WON'T WORK WHEN IT IS SUPPOSED TO

Joseph: didn't work, link not found, but here's the code I tried at a virtual domain: www.virtualdn.com/business.info (as a test)

Any other ways to fix? Reward raised to 60 NP$!

oh thats wierd.... it was working for me! i will get right on it...
oh and sorry about the link... my ftp didn't upload it... cause it was working on my own computer... so i just moved the file over, but it musn't of worked :angry:

EDIT: ahhh... welll i've just copied that code over and now it isn't working! strange or what! i uploaded the second one to www.josephheskett.com/script.html but nothing appears when u click! this is very baffling... to show my dedication i will get straight on to fixing it!

I am confused....the page works fine, exactly like it is supposed to. It's set up so you can either do on mouse over or on click. If you want them to both be clicked, you have to change the link to match the other one:

Oh, and to Joesph, your onClick in the first link should return dropdownmenu...you're leaving out the return. I don't really know why you are making the link act as a forward button, but whatever.

but it works
it is there to stop it from going straight to default.htm when it is clicked... it cancels out the return
and the return isn't needed... i dont think...

What you did was a silly hack to get rid of the return. Add the return and it won't go anywhere. The way you have it setup, if someone clicks the back button to get back to that menu, they can't use the menu anymore (it will take them forward).

ok would you fancie teaching me a bit of javascript? it just i saw what the problem was so i tried to sort it out... and the problem i saw was that it was going to the page... i tried javascript (0) but that refreshed the page... so i tried +1, and it worked... i am sorry... but i was attempting to try and help someone out... coz all the other stuff on this forum is way beyond me...

Hi,

Heh, just remove the old dropdown menu stuff and your error will go away. Some JS scripts are not compatible because they use the same function/variable names.

I am pretty sure they are conflicting, but cant be 100% sure unless you tell me the other script. I tested the code myself and its working, so your other script has to be causing the problems... expecialy since the new code is first in the code.... This means any function that is named the same will overwrite the other.

Edit - Just checked your code, this is your issue, they both use hidemenu() which is needed for both and both need to be differant.
