Getting a certificate

I want to take some couses on line to get certified for some web design. Are there any reputable sites that arent hugely expensive where I could earn one?

Also what should I be learning. I only have basic knowledge of html. I learn very quickly though. Has anyone done this? How do I get started?

If i were you, I would get a good knowledge of php (www.php.net), asp, javascript and MySQL (www.mysql.com). Then i would try to find where I could get a certificate.

You will find tutorials covering every bit in web design, I would say..If you want it for Web Design, then learn html, xhtml, css and thats it.

Very cool. I never knew about that. I'm probably not going to have too much time to play with that, but I might consider getting certified through that. Thanks for the link.

Its got lots of certification courses such as PHP, Photoshop, Vb etc.. and after you pass a course exam they will send you the certificate (hardcopy)

They are very good... Like one time I took the Photoshop exam, I notice its best if youre an intermediate or advanced user inorder to top the exam.. Although they charge a small fee but I think its worth it..

But you can try their free exams to test drive their system

I wouldn't recommend you to pay to get certified (too expensive and unnecessary), but you can still take the tests if you want, just to prove your knowledge. The portfolio is the real deal, as that's what your customers will be looking at when they decide whether or not they need you to design something, IMO.

Yes, Shan..good point. But the site offers cheap certificates so why not if they add value to your career and experience? It's worth it imo.

Certificates are good when you apply for work.. But like me if you are working online clients dont ask for your certificates..what they're after is your portfolio of your previous works.. They simply base your skills on your samples and experiences
