Best PHP Editor Program

I just thought I'd run a little investigation ... In your opinion, which program do you feel is best for PHP coding / editing and why?

I know there are many different programs available, but which one do you use and what do you like best about it?

Hopefully this should be quite interesting

I do almost all of my coding in EditPlus. www.editplus.com I would recommend replacing Windows Notepad with it if you edit a lot of PHP or HTML files.

I work a lot in Dreamweaver too when adding HTML to my programs, and have also used Zend Studio for managing large scale projects, but both feel a little overkill for my day-to-day programming.

I tend to use SciTe. It's free and pretty basic. It has tabbed browsing and syntax highlighting for a number of languages. So it's nice, I use it at home with PHP and at work with Cold Fusion. I guess you could use an editor with more features, but I like the simplicity and flexibility of the program.

I swear by Zend Studio. Gotta be the most complete package for editing PHP. If you want a free solution with integration with php, get PHP Designer 2005.

Seems that Zend Studio and Dreamweaver are the most widely-used.

I actually use Crimson Editor and, for what I use it for, it is brilliant. Simple, easy-to-use and functional. I can see what I need, when I need it, that's what I like about it

DREAMWEAVER IS JUNK! I HIGHLY ADVICE STRAY AWAY FROM IT!

http://www.CrimsonEditor.com - Crimson Editor is A+ in my book. PHP Designer 2005 is good too, but has some annoying syntax coloring bugs that drive me insane.

I don't mind dreamweaver that much. It's better than frontpage. Nothing beats vi though.

I'm suprised there was only one mention of php designer 2005 so far. I think it's a great program! Of course, I like anything that's free and serves a purpose.

i would recommed Dreamweaver as you don't need to know all php stuff to make scripts.

Much easier then typing the script.

Designer 2005 is great, but it claims debugging support which it just doesn't have. It doesn't have a stepping debugger like Zend does, and they really should explain on their website that by "debugger" they really mean "with one button you can see the output of your script". This is bullshit to me...but it's free, so I don't complain, I just use Zend.

I use UltraEdit (www.ultraedit.com) for all my coding. It is a program. I have been using it for probably 10 years now for EVERYTHING. it is MORE than worth the $40 registration fee.

Notepad! I find everything else trys to make it easy, or is crowded or have a complex layout, notepad is perfect, you can jump to whatever line you want (ctrl+g) and I just love it!

Notepad could do better with a line function on the side, so it says the number, a bit like xint, xint is also cool!

I use TextPad for all of my coding - great features: syntax highlighting, line numbers, bracket match-ups, and more.... it can even be integrated with the Java Development kit, to run java apps, etc...

I've found it very useful for PHP editing.
