Last year i have created a "Real" search engine using ASP.NET 1.1 , and it really works! I can give you that script, but i have to say that its control panel is in Russian.

You would need several dedicated servers and a specialized program methinks. Write a program that starts with a few websites, follows every link it possibly can then store it in a HUMONGOUS database. (Assuming your server/application was efficient and large enough to hold all the data)

Am I right?

Actually, I had an idea for an older website of mine, to improve accuracy of the website's popularity. More can be read on it here: http://www.vibewave.com/articles/search.php
