Test Program in Progress. Sedo vs Parked vs ND vs WP

OK, here's what I did and the early, early results.

I took one of my "good" business sites offline and "parked" it - L2motorcyclerentals.com

This site sees about 150 - 200 unique visitors a day. It is a PR 3 site with many backlinks and is DMOZ listed. It is over 2 years old and the company is well respected in the "motorcycle rental" community. I can do this for 4 days (only because rental season is at it's slowest right now), then I'll switch it back to my normal website on day 5 so I don't loose indexing.

Once every 24 hours I am moving the DNS between Sedo, Parked, Namedrive and Whypark in that order. I have set keywords, templates and just about everything I can do before moving the DNS to these parking companies so there's no delay in getting relevant ads.

Day one complete at Sedo - Stats settled - Uniques (187), clicks (54) Revenue ($4.81)

Day two just started an hour ago at Parked. So far Uniques (17), clicks (3), Revenue (.67)

I'll report in every day when the program completes and moves on to the next company.

Observation: So far at Parked, revenue on those 3 clicks is about 350% of what Sedo paid.

In the future probably be a good idea to do your whole test and then come report as by announcing it this forum has reps from all of those companies here that could give that domain a little boost.

I thought of that, but I figure I'll probably loose some "regular" traffic along the way so if that does happen, it'll probably make up for any loss and keep the uniques close anyway.

LOL, one of my stores already called and said WTF, why is the website down? Figures it one of the stores that says he doesn't get many calls off that site anyway (and never pays his feeble fee anyway) hahaha. Imagine that!

Nice creative touch. Can't wait to see the results. (pulling for WP of course). Since you started today, that means WP will get Saturday, right? Do uniques normally increase for the weekend? Seems there might be more demand for rentals then. Keep us posted and thanks.

50/50 - I've been renting motorcycles for 8 years and there is no rhyme or reason for the traffic most of the time. Heck, I remember a rental we had in December to a Japanese guy that lived in Denver - he needed a bike for a week, and it was 10/15 degrees outside. I asked him why and he said he met a gal "date" on the Internet that was coming to visit him for a week. He had told her he owned a "Harwee" and he really didn't, so he put one of my rental bikes in the garage and every day opened the door and they'd go sit on his "Harwee". LOL. Priceless.

Very interesting. But, Parked has 26 Kws on the 2 click lander. Each with a different payout. While with Sedo, you have 1 seed keyword. How will you be able to compare actual KW performance between these 2 services?

I'm not going that deep into it Varon....

What the companies offer "is what it is", whether one click/portal/two click, feed company, etc.

Just parking it, and letting it fly (or sink)

i agree with the way you're doing it(Even though Varon's point is legit and a bit sophisticated

). My prediction is that Parked will beat sedo's performance soundly.

Well they were....

Stats from 5 hours yesterday have settled at Parked - what was showing .22 a click as stats were accumulating, is now settled at guess? .08 a click LOL.

7 PM MDT, another 6 hours - I'll switch DNS to NameDrive.

OK, L2motorcyclerentals.com is at Namedrive now for Day 3 of the test.

Day 2 Parked.com results in.

Uniques - 160, Clicks - 39, Revenue - $3.97

These are not "settled" results - I believe the PPC revenue will be even lower tomorrow, which I will post.

Namedrive is on the hook now, with Whypark tomorrow evening.

Observation: Clicks were at .22, but lowered to .08 today at Parked. Holding at .10 now, but I'm willing to bet that drops too.

Let's see how ND does.

Interesting test L2, although doing it over a slightly longer period of time might help (or maybe not!?). But of course you don't your site getting de-indexed.

I've always wanted to run a test like this but couldn't think of a sure way to make it fair. There are so many criteria that come into play - one of which varon mentioned. But of course I am interested in seeing the results of doing a "park n go" rather than going into too much detail related to KW/clicks etc.

I think this is a fair test, though i think you have to give and take a % in general variance. Although Sedo is beating Parked, im giving Parked the benefit of doubt right now with the lesser earnings, im judging it a tie, i think what we are looking for in general is a stand out performer, heres hopeing. Im definately in the whypark corner if this is to occur.

Actually, if you think about it - it's about as fair as fair can be.

Prolly' could have ran it silently - and next time I most likely will. But reading the info "after the fact" leaves everything subjective too. People would blame you for changing the reports or something.

I just read this on ND:

Please note: The earnings on each click made on your domains are shown as a generic per-region value for the first 48 hours. Once we receive the exact earnings data from our advertising partner, the generic stats are updated to show the real click value. The last update date is shown in gray in your control panel. This process ensures that we can display the exact earnings made on your domains.

We'll post whatever stats they supply tomorrow night, and if they change after that, I'll post'm again.

One thing I did notice - the damn popunders at ND. Checked the site, and nothing more annoys me than popunders (or overs). I could shut it off, but I'm after whatever revenue they supply to make it a true "park and go" gig, so they'll stay up for now.

Oh, pop-unders did you say?! I didn't know ND did that. I've recently signed up an account with them and only have two names parked there. I hate pop-unders/overs too... I'll give it a once over and see if there are settings to turn it off.

I have about 500 domains hangin' around right now - half at sedo, some at parked and a few spread between other parking sites... I've found it hard generating decent revenue at any parking sites - testing out WP now - heard lots of good things so far and looks easy enough to work.

Tests/comparisons like this are great for people like me- I need to see some results... I hate moving my domains around... it'd be great to just have them all at one place. So far sedo has been the best all rounder... but its still far from expectations.

btw. L2, that thing you read on ND about 48hrs... I'm pretty sure its the same at Parked (24 hours I think). I could be wrong.. but check it out.

I think the general rule is 3 months revenue for value of a parking domain, assuming there's nothing special to take into consideration. I may be off on that though.

Talk about kicking Sedo's arse!

Here's the finals:

Parked.com - 168 Uniques, 46 Clicks, $15.04 in Revenue

WOW! That sure changed from the "accumulating" Stats!

Here's the finals for Day one with Sedo and Day two with Parked:

Sedo - Uniques (187), clicks (54) Revenue ($4.81)
Parked - Uniques (168) clicks (46) Revenue ($15.04)

Observation: Note how close the traffic was....

This result sure surpised me!

The results are surprising, but can't be considered accurate. First of all, one domain is not enough of a test and your time period is too short. One thing to keep in mind is that nameservers do not change at the same speed every time, so some companies could have more hours of stats than others. Besides that, the fact that you mentioned the test after it had already been parked at one place for a day, but before it had been at the other places. This makes the test not very valuable. Everyone compains so much about transparency, we can't just forget about it now. The next test should include more names and the names absolutely need to be kept secret until the test is over.

I know that you said it is not a serious test or anything, but I thought I would mention those two points. I do like the notion behind the test, thanks for sharing

Understood, and points taken.....

If there were a couple hundred extra visitors, I'd say a company's "supporters" were tainting the results - but so far, haven't seen that. In fact, there were less visitors to Parked, then Sedo.

Since I'm funneling the DNS through four companies, it is possible a delay can happen (like last night, the non www address went straight to ND, but the www address stayed at Parked for an extra hour). We'll see if the ND stats will show this tonight around 7/8 PM when I switch the dns to Whypark.

Straight up Visitors/CTR/Revenue ratio was impressive at Parked I must say.

And I thought the Sedo Google Feed would pay better than the Parked Yahoo Feed....

Who feeds Namedrive do you know? It appears to me to be a Google Feed.

But, so much for what I thought, or think. LOL
