Google parking feed and unrelated ads!

Over the last few months I've noticed alot of my domains I park with a parking company using a Google feed return unrelated ads on 1 click landers. (Sedo/Namedrive/Revenuedirect etc.)

No matter what keyword is set, the ads are unrelated.

For example I have a domain with visitors looking for 'online TV' and with the keyword set to 'TV' or 'Watch TV online' - ads are shown for 'Universities/Colleges' which is completely unrelated.

*Sometimes* the correct ads are shown relating to the keywords I set - but often at random, perhaps after 10 or 15 page refreshes.

I e-mailed a Sedo parking manager and he informed me it's to do with Google smart pricing.

I can't see why Google would return ads for colleges when users are looking to watch TV online. Surely the advertisers for college/universities don't want this traffic.

I've noticed other domainers are having this problem - does anyone have anymore info on this; or found a work around?

There's all kinds of things that could be going on. I'm not sure if parking feeds work the same way, but for AdSense, Google will show the best paying ads that are competing for that particular space in that particular moment. I dunno how many ads are in existence for watching TV online, but it's possible that all or most of the advertisers have blocked their ads from showing on parked domains. It's also possible that they are bidding lower than these college and university ads. (If they're only bidding 5 cents, you're not going to get much out of that) Google's broad match for advertising is *really* broad sometimes - and it's possible that someone online education is getting lumped in with online tv. Also, with Google personalized search (and ad delivery) what you see when you look at the domain is not necessarily what I would see, even if I looked at it in the very same moment.

A single keyword may not be enough to convince Google what your page is about, also. If you have the ability to add content, you could try that.

But basically, if the keyword isn't getting relevant ads, you can move to a company with a different feed, or you can live with it the way it was and hope someone clicks, or you can develop it.

'Watch TV online' sound like there may be some copyright issues that the feed do want to deal with. Just a thought

I have found with Namedrive that the "category/subcategory" choice in "settings" can sometimes seem to over-ride keyword choice.
I had a software domain with software keywords that was getting computer hardware ads until I changed the "category/subcategory" settings to general, then I got software ads straight away.

Hi guys,

Users of ND will know that this has been something which has been ongoing for some time. It seems that other providers are no longer above it. The keywords our users enter have always been a suggestion to our ad provider rather than a definitive order to give us that advertising. In most cases, there is no conflict, but they have been known to return irrelevant ads. If you see any instances of this, please let us know and we will do our best to get the situation resolved as they are obviously not happy to have unrelated advertising on domains, so appreciate it if we can point out obvious errors.

I can also confirm that category selection has no effect on keywords on our system.

I hope this clears things up a little.
