Lightbulb Power tips for domain parking

I thought I'd start a thread to share domain monetizing tips. Considering that we have both, experts and newcomers on this forum, wouldn't it be great if we could all share our tips with everyone? I'm sure this would benefit each and everyone of us. I am planning to add tips on various niches like wordtracker keyword research, domain visitor demographics etc and also throw in high paying keywords working for me.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/parking-and-traffic-monetization/350283-power-tips-for-domain-parking.html

I'm sure that we all have some keywords which are doing well for us. It would be great if we could share it on this forum. Sharing is gaining. You stand to lose nothing.

So let me start by sharing something I found sometime back.. this may be a known tip to many members, but could be first time news for someone else.

I like the quantcast.com tool. I find it very helpful to find a domain's keywords, demographic trends, visitor composition etc. Gives you a lot of insight as to what you can expect for niche areas.

Lets take a look at plentyoffish.com as an example. This is a social networking/ dating site which has been doing very well. Btw, this site supposedly makes a killing via adsense each day and earns huge dollar income.

Now if we look at the site keywords at a glance.. we see the various keywords this site focusses on. The quantcast tool includes ratings for 20,245,160 sites. Sites which receive more than 2K uniques a month only appear here.

Here's a quick look at this site's keywords...

A very handy site to gauge keywords for domains. Please feel free to add your own tips.

Cancer

Question cool but how?

cool website, varon.

But for our parked domains to be quantified by them, we need to insert simple java script code to our pages. Question is how we could do that? For we dont have access to the page at parking program especially for those who use dns transfer. Or should we all do url forwarding system? so we could manage our own pages and insert the code? but it will need hosting, mean more cost. Suggestion needed.

I suspect what Varon is suggesting is that we find successful websites that share the same market niches as the domains that we are parking and then mimic their keyword choices for our parked domains. But then again, I may be wrong...

No Sihar, you cannot submit parked names for inclusion in their database. Its for fully functional websites. Test Case is right. This site can be very helpful to find similar keywords for our parked domains. On the flipside, it could be a boon for people who have typos and need the right keyword.

For example if you own a educational domain, try finding out a similar website that is very popular and research that website's keywords. Are they targeting distance education courses or online masters degrees, etc. I was able to find out that for my niche area there were a lot of african american visitors. I changed my domains keyword to black singles and it really worked wonders.

Thanks guys for appreciating the information. I will add some more content and tips soon and look forward to other members posting their ideas too.

Here's a good way to research the wordtracker database for wide ranging keywords. The use of wildcards. As usual I will add the note that this is known to many seasoned domaineers but may be first time news for someone else. Personally, I feel the Wordtracker tool is simply awesome. In light of the obsolete overture keyword data, WT definitely fills in the void by providing last 90 day searches and 24 hour predicts.

Lets start by understanding what a wildcard like "*" can perform. For example, if I want to find all words starting with or containing the letters "en and py" I would enter the word "en*py". This would give me a whole set and subsets of words containing my selected words. This helps pull up relatively unknown words that are being searched for on various search engines.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=350283

Here is a snapshot.

Okay now taking the above example, let me try this with hyphenated words. Here is a result for the hyphenated word "best-*".

This is a great way to find nice keywords over a broader spectrum. I will be adding more on wildcards as I learn more. I am figuring out if we can use operators like "and" "or" and other wildcards like "? - ^ { }".

Sincere thanks to everyone who liked this thread and to those who left me reps. I appreciate your gesture.

I agree, Word tracker is a good tool. I just haven't used it on its own in a long time.
I always find the using KWE with wordtracker and keyworddiscovery to be better. It parses the results better and more effeciently.
Easier to sort, and you can schedule the tasks to run, get typos of the keywords on the same run.
This cuts the research time by more than 60% giving more time to do other things.
There are so many tools to use these days and main problem now is getting to use all of those tools to fit your needs Within your time Alloted for each specific task.
Retrieving the data is the easiest part, having that data collated for you (quickly and effciently) to be able to make decisions is the hard part.
Each hour or minute used up before you able to make up your decision can mean someone else beating you to a name.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=350283
Four years ago when I started out, it was about having the necessary tools to find great names and keywords, these days it's about who gets the research done first and gets it ahead of everyone else.

Very true. It's getting really tough these days. I mean buying typos is real easy but getting a pure type in that can really pull in the numbers from day 1 is tough, but the gain is sweet. Its a lifetime asset.

Thanks Sihar.

Wildlife
Something else I've learned is that you should constantly check and update your keywords.

It took me a while to understand why after I did all the research that a keyword would pay so little. But if I did the research for the same keyword a month later the results can be totally different. There are many reasons for that:
- seasonal influence: "beach holiday" pays better in the summer, "skiing" just the opposite
- hypes: "iphone" and "harry potter" are paying nice right now, but will die down over time
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=350283
- ad campaigns: when a company is running a campaign, online or offline, they will bid higher for a keyword
- smart pricing: if you do find a high paying keyword, chances are many others will find it too and soon the price will drop

I started updating my keywords once a month instead of just once per domain and the CTR and PPC are both up more than 200%.

Great advice and pointers, Varon, rep added. I had never heard of the quancast.com tool before, but I see that some of my sites are listed there and it's interesting what quantcast has to say about them. About one of my sites it says,

"This site reaches approximately 7,427 U.S. monthly uniques. The site caters to a more African American, more male audience. The site's audience's affinities are news (BBC News, New York Times), travel (US Government Travel Info) and retail (Macy's)."

What? New York Times? Macy's? I had no idea. And perhaps I should focus more on the African-American angle.
