relevant vs high paying keywords

I was taking a sneaky peek at some of the keywords that are used on parked sites with high traffic. One thing I noticed is that some people use keywords that have high PPC but are not relevant to the domain name. Wouldn't that kill your CTR?

from reading Namepros FAQ I see they don't encourage this (I only use namepros because they are the best, easiest to deal with, no hassle, good comms and pay without fuss... so can't comment on anybody else).

To be honest, i just changed the keywords on one of my domains, and from an average of $1.50 a day or so it looks like it will make $4 (and maybe much more up to $10 a day).

However the new keyword was relevant to the domain, although not the most relevant keyword (thats arguable though of course). My CTR% hasn't dropped so maybe the new keyword is just as relevant

Its easy for the parking admins to see abused keywords, as they'll have a very (abnormally) low CTR% and high PPC.

If parked programs find you abusing the keyword system... well... I just wouldn't go there.....

That's a good point. I never thought about it being considered abuse. I guess you could defend it by claiming any clicks are voluntarily. But in this case the keyword was totally unrelated which was the reason I noticed because the ads didn't make sense, so any clicks could only come from confused visitors.

Always go relevant. Just find the best paying relevant word. For a higher ctr will result from a relevant keyword.

Ex: Domain is Hats.com with 1000 views a day.

Keyword: embroidered hats
Bid: $3.00
CTR: 25%
Thats $750/day before yahoo and parking cuts. so lets call it $200ish.

Keyword: Hats
Bid: $0.92
CTR: 35%
Thats $322/day before yahoo and parking cuts. so lets call it $80ish.

Keyword: Mortgage
Bid: $5.11
CTR: 5%
Thats $255/day before yahoo and parking cuts. so lets call it $64ish

I think 5% is a generous ctr for such an unrelated term and programs usually take a larger cut of high paying words so after all is said and done youll make less. Just stay relevant. If you went with "embroidered hats" not all people are looking for that so it gets a less ctr in my example, but its not going to be as low as "mortgage" andn it pays well.

interesting post DropLister... thanks

I was also intrigued about cuts.... looks like the advertising delivery vehicle owner (i.e. the domain name owner) only gets a small percentage....

But spot on about targeting keywords... something I have started doing now.

Yea, we really get jacked on the advertising $$, the middle man does almost nothing, don't own the domain, don't get the traffic, don't pay for the bandwith, don't put the work into the site, just collects the money. Guess that's what a monopoly does for you though.

directly or indirectly you can always associate a keyword to a domain. Just sometimes
not many people would agree with your association +
