Ideas for NamePros marketing campaign

We'll soon be launching a new advertising campaign promoting the NamePros.com community. This will involve regular and leaderboard size banner ads that will be displayed to domain name owners around the World.

I don't consider myself to be a great banner designer because I seem to have difficulty saying what I want to say in such a small space.

You're all familiar with the NamePros community... so what do you think? Should I hire a marketing firm or can we come up with a few great ideas for a campaign here? I'd love to hear some ideas for a campaign here in this thread.

RJ

I definitely think we can come up with some ideas here, without hiring anyone. In my opinion, what makes NamePros so great is the fact that there is a profesional yet fun atmosphere, many experienced expert members, and there is a ton of activity. I think these are some of the ideas I would try to stress in the banners.

Also, what kind of websites are you planning on advertising? The reason I ask, is the targeted market might be different. If you are advertising on a site with newbie domainers, or people who are not even domainers, then you are going to be marketing younger, new domainers. However, if you were advertising on a domain website, then you would be targetting more experienced domainers, and thus want to stress more of the profesionalism, and the sales that go through. Just my thoughts,

Will be targeting consumers who already own domain names, but are not neccessarily in the business of buying/selling them. Customers of a registrar, for instance.

OK thanks! I will post some more specific ideas for the marketing campaign later, when I have some more time to think about it.

I'm less seeking graphics, and banner sizes than marketing ideas for the campaigns. I have capable designers that I can work with once I have the concepts in place.

After some thinking over, I think a theme of profesionalism would be the best route to go. Something to the effect of "Come learn the secrets of how to make money in the domain biz, from the pros" Not these act words, but something to that effect. Any suggestions/reactions to this kind of theme?

It's late but here are a couple of concepts. If you could identify the specific types of people you hope to draw or explain what you hope to achieve, I could be more productive with ideas. You can PM with rough ideas if you like.

Tom
or maybe:

"Come learn the secrets of making money in the domain business from the NamePros"

"Learn how to make money from domains from the NamePros"

"Learn to be a NamePro"

RJ.. Namepros has great position in search engines.. it has good number of members and graphic.. My question is.. what are you thinking.. for markting.. whats your aim?

member will increased no doubt.. SE positition will be increase no dout..

In first place i am thinking to place couple of banners on great big sites like flashkit, sxc.hu [great free stock photo site] webhostingtalk etc..

well i am thinking what i can do my best..

if u hire marketing compnies.. their first step will be build backup links.. you can ask for this to all members in return of $nps

hire a couple of person.. to build up backlinks.. and link exchange sites..

but my strong suggestion is to place banner in couple of big sites.. like sedo.com fabouls etc..

regards

yes google ads is also great option

OK finally found this thread again.

I am assuming that the objective, simply stated, is to draw visitors into the NP forum, give them a chance to get acquainted and ultimately, to increase the size of the forum membership.

To achieve this objective, I don't think that the best course to take is, necessarily, the one that attempts to define or create an image of NP, that describes the virtues of NP, or that explains how people that are interested in domain names, can benefit, etc etc. Although these points are all well and good, (and true), and ultimately, this is the info and image that we want out there, at the "mod", (moment of decision), catchy headlines and phrases explaining why the viewer should click on the link could very easily become lost and melt into the hundreds of other promises, deals, oppurtunities, and claims that the averege surfer runs across every day.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=80232

My strongest incentive for clicking on a link comes, not as the result of what is being promised, and not as a result of how cool the graphic is, (although I'm fudging a little w/ this one). My strongest incentive for clicking on a link comes as a result of my *curiousity*. My own curiousity is what grabs me. Curiousity is the hook.

Does "Learn how to make money from names", or "Learn the secrets of..", really make you trigger finger itchy? We are perpetually bombarded w/ these kind of slogans and claims on a daily basis and there is nothing that really distinguishes one from the other- they all become blurred together, we have nothing that truly distinguishes the the banner or creates the incentive for us to click on the link, and we move on.

My approach would be a relatively simple and focused one. Appeal to the viewer's curiousity w/ simple one line questions. ie "Do you know what domain name was the first ever to be registered?" "Do you know how many domain names are registered today?" "Do you know what the busiest website in the world is?" "Are there any English words that rhyme with orange?" etc etc. "Click on the NamePros Logo to Find Out."

The questions could be rotated, which would enhance the possibility of return traffic. The link could be to a page w/ a brief answer, followed by something like, "Want to know more? Click Here->" This link would than land the visitor onto a pertinent thread, where the subject that was related to the question is/was being discussed.

My 2C, for the moment. Any thoughts?

We could do it on our own, no problem. No need to hire a firm, many talented people here that would do it for free
