Hey, I'm sorry if it's not the place to ask because I 'm not sure under which forum should I post it. I wanted to promote my site at Google. I've encountered the following site for a local Christian children shop , and I've noticed that it has high page rank. Now it's not a big site so how can I promote mine as well?

Make your site errors free. No programming error, no browser compatibility errors etc.

Then provide excellent content in your site. If possible try to get some quality backlinks.

Keep updating the content.

This will help to improve your site's SERPs.

Try adding a sitemap to your site, seems to help.

Also try adding meta details, some search engines still rely on it a lot.

ONpage SEO which is Meta data Title/descrip/tags and content on page should all be unique and relevant to the page. This will allow your pages to be indexed by Google and a chance to rank for terms which might be "longtail" and more obscure but overall get lot of traffic. Once Onpage is setup you need offpage seo for link building. Start with directories.

The Christian gift store site you listed is not high PR as it is only 1 when I checked it which is low. However the best way to build your rankings is to make sure your on page SEO is good and then focus on building quality, relevant backlinks. Good ways to do this are by making constructive comments on relevant blogs & forums, writing articles and submitting to article directories, free directory listings, social bookmarking, etc.

Do both On-Page and Off-Page Optimization!.. Both should go together!..
On-Page Optimization - deals with the proper use of keywords, meta tags, title tags, alt-tags (describing images), and description..
Off-Page - deals with building links like article & directory submissions, blog commenting, forum posting, classified ads, etc..

site map can help you to get index in search engines but for promoting Your site you have to do SEO for this, or if you have some extra cash then you can use PPC/google adward to promote your site

Yes, good original content, no errors, use of title/description tag, h tags, site map... All is important to have a goos website for optimization, but...

I think one very important thing is to focus on the right keywords! Good volume + mild competition. You can have a great website and all, but if you focus on high competition keywords, you won't get on first page of search engine (at least for months and months!)

For Google, backlinks are king and headers, metatags, and keywords are queen. Make sure you are targeting the keywords you want and include them in all of these. Then promote like crazy.
