| Direct URL Traffic Hi,
Lets say a consumer was exposed to my banner advert on a forum. He/she then proceeds to enter the brand name directly into the URL address box rather than clicking on the ad.
Is there any tracking solution that can tell me that he/she came from X website?
Can this be achieved by looking into the server logs? I've looked at G.Analytics but it doesn't seem to work unless the user clicks on a link from website X.
Thanks. |

| I do not believe there is a tracking system out like that, its know as direct traffic, but what pervious page is hard to determine, i also how would a tracker figure the difference between someone seeing it.. or someone just remembering it..
Like if i am on google.. i remember namepros.. then just type it in |

| AFAIK, many ad networks do this by placing a cookie on the visitors machine.
e.g.
user visits site A
banner is served from site B
site B places a cookie on users machine "last visit: site A"
user goes directly to site B at a later date
site B reads cookie
this is not 100% reliable, e.g. I have FireFox set to delete all cookies when I close it. |
