How do I start a newsletter?

I'd like to create a newsletter for one of my affiliate programs and I would like some advice on how to go about it.

How do I go about starting one?
Do I require special technology or do I just type an article in Word and post it via my email account?
Is it possible to insert my affiliate links into a newsletter, or do most affiliate providers not accept that?
How do I get subscribers?

Your responses would be most appreciated.

Start by using one of the scripts our members have recommended here. Once you have the script installed, add a form to your website so that your current visitor's can subscribe to the mailing list.

I would recommend the use of one of the previously listed mailing list scripts in the other thread. It wouldn't be too smart to submit one email to tens or hundreds of subscribers since the email addresses of all the subscribers would be visible to one another. Through the use of a mailing list, the email's will be sent one-by-one and so none of the email addresses will be visible to your subscribers. This will in the long run help prevent spam, as well.

If your mailing list is legit, and you haven't subscribed email addresses to your own mailing list without their acknowledgement, then I don't see a problem in posting an affiliate link. As long as no spam is being sent, I doubt affiliate programs will have a problem with this. Read your affiliate program's TOS and see what they have to say about this matter prior to dispatching an email to your subscribers.

First of all, get visitors on your website to join the mailing list. People are usually greedy, tell them you'll be giving away some prizes to randomly selected subscribers (such as Gmail invites). Giving away prizes should boost the number of subscribers you have drastically. Next, you should get your family and friends to join. Finally, I would recommend the use of ezine lists and/or co-registration if you aren't on a tight budget. Once you have a hefty sum of subscribers, send out an email with the product you are an affiliate of, and see the response you get.

Edit: Sorry, forgot to answer one of your questions.

A nice newletter provider is www.magnetmail.net, there is tracking on every newsletter you send out, who opens it, and what links they hit, its pretty expensive though

fjnjn2000, another smart way to get subscribers would be to offer NP$ in return for sign ups. This should be a guaranteed way of getting subscribers, and it looks like you have the NP$ to start a campaign on these forums.
