Its a thread in a forum which is offering an xbox 360 to the person who gets the most posts in his forum when this thread reaches 1million. Its just a big count. Good idea or just encouraging spammers to spam the rest of his site.
That's interesting. Although it would, of course, encourage spammers, it would inevitably keep people around. If he gets about 1,000 to join and post there just because they want to win the Xbox, he could make that back with the ads, the site's traffic, anything. At first, I didn't think he'd make it to 1,000,000, but he's already into the 400s, so I expect he can pull it off and make his $500 or so back.
He needs to put some ads on the site first.
EDIT: The owner doesn't live far from me -- that's cool, I guess.
I don't get it ... why wouldn't he reward the person who posted the most across all threads, instead of the person who replies enough times to the post? He's going to have a 1,000,000 post thread eating up Google's resources (and lowering his SERPs/PR for the rest of the site), and no benefit ... seems counterintuitive to me.
From what I got out of it, that's what he's doing -- the person who has the most posts in the entire forum (including that post) by the time the thread reaches 1,000,000 wins.
Am I the only one that thinks it would work better if he didn't allow double posting? People are posting pages of replies consecutively...
