I don't know of any sites that would advertise for free but you can try to get free exposure by using one of the best free search engine submitting sites - DMOZ - Google and Yahoo + others get some of their info from DMOZ. http://www.dmoz.org Good Luck!

Search engines are a start... I find I get a lot of random searches for stuff on my website. I posted the name "evanscence" by accident I forgot the "e" and I got 65 hits from MSN & google for that. *shakes her head* Getting affliates is good too. Especially if they're bigger sites with high traffic

Well, it's hard to find places that will do it for free...
but at my site (http://mixedtape.org/romance) you can have a full-sized banner advertised for .20 a month or a 150x40 button/banner ad for .5 a month.
If you pay for a year of the 468x60 banner ads, it's only $2.25 instead of $2.40 like it would be if you paid for each month seperately.
I just created a site tracker yesterday afternoon/evening, already I've gotten 73 unique hits. http://nerdhelp.com advertises at my site, and so does http://funky-twist.com .
