Web gambling gets boost from Obama administration

Quote:
The Obama administration cleared the way for U.S. states to legalize Internet poker and certain other online betting in a switch that may help them reap billions in tax revenue and spur web-based gambling.

A Justice Department opinion dated September and made public on Friday reversed decades of previous policy that included civil and criminal charges against operators of some of the most popular online poker sites.

The average Joe or Jane will not be setting up any legal gambling sites any time soon.

The states themselves will grab all the revenue and/or charge millions for gambling licenses.

Have you seen any legal lotteries run by individuals?

I thought not.

All operated by state governments--too much easy money to be made.

I suspect that offshore gambling sites will remain illegal and, therefore, will continue to be blocked from US IPs.

It will be an interesting topic to follow as it progresses. I agree that states will be the ones to jump in and control this one not unlike the states with small stakes gambling.

It's not as easy to setup online gambling software as it is the lotto... Not to say that these licenses won't cost millions, but private companies will have to be running these sites.

It won't be difficult for offshore poker sites to establish a physical presence in America, and begin legally operating in America.

Even before the whole crackdown, there was really only PokerStars and FTP for players in the states. Once this legislation will pass, poker will blowup in the states once again...

On a side note, Felted.com had expired was on in GD's auction about three weeks ago. Perfect poker forum name, but it sold for about $300 which was too much for my budget...

Just like reseller hosting though where it's white label, I've seen poker sites where they'll give you the software but your license is through them and you're just responsible for marketing it.

Oh, the major ones are ready to go, the one's that have been in America for decades. Just waiting for this country to come around and legalize it, which it should be.
