Awful Sitepoint Website Marketplace Becomes Flippa

... and pisses customers off in the process. In addition to increasing listing fees, adding a 5% success fee for successful auctions, the Co-Founder of Sitepoint, Mark Harbottle calls his paying customers "whiners and complainers" and tells them if they don't like it, take their business to Digital Point.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/industry-news/593493-sitepoint-website-marketplace-becomes-flippa.html

My method of selling domains has been to develop them and flip the sites in Sitepoint. This has been profitable for me for some time. The new marketplace, Flippa.com, is lacking all the usability of the old marketplace and combined with the increased fees and the arrogance of a Co-Founder, I'm taking my business elsewhere.

Just posted a detailed post on domainingdiva.com with links to all the threads where customers are very negative about the changes.

Personally I find flippa a bit hard to navigate plus the fees puts me off but maybe thats just me. There may be a chance sellers are getting high quality buyers? Except for large sites ranging in 4 figures plus, will maybe I list in flippa or else the others I sell on DP and other webmaster forum. Easier and friendlier to communicate with potent buyers

Sitedeal.org was just launched and looks very good. The owner has developed a large list of site investors and he markets the site to them. I've got all my listings there now. Flippa sucks and the prices are out of line with the lack of features and difficult navigation. The buyer and seller pool has not improved. All the same scammers that were on Sitepoint are still on Flippa. Sitedeal is also free right now. I have a lot of listings on it right now and have been communicating with a potential customer for a package deal on several of my sites.

I had a look at flippa and had the exact same thoughts. It seemed harder than the old sitepoint marketplace and the fees are way too much. I won't be supporting it as I'm sure many others won't either. I'll check out sitedeal.org now though as it sounds promising.

Looks like someone as SP needs to write an article about how not to mess up a profitable venture and tick off all your clients at the same time.

Outrageous he is using SP stats on the site as Flippa stats. Pretty screwed up imho.

Here is their thread about making their marketplace with a fee back in 2005.
$9.95 listing fee now applies. - SitePoint Forums

I used to sell regularly on that site but not once since they implemented the fee.

Just from a navigation and useability perspective, comparing sitedeal.org and flippa.com, I think flippa.com is much easier to navigate.

Terrible idea imho. Bad domain, bad attitude. Pretty stupid to recommend your customers go use a competitor if they don't like your new rules...

HI

Once SiteDeal becomes as popular as Sitepoint market place was for selling website then SiteDeal may be worth while... Flippa will be the most popular for some time to come because it is owned by Sitepoint...

I would still rather list my sites on Flippa.. as they have more eyes... on what is for sale.

Flippa is the worst looking generic template piece of garbage I've ever seen and the functionality is terrible.
