.CO and is Rick Latona off his rocker ?

.CO is coming - Expect huge prices and an intense aftermarket - finally real competition to .com | RickLatona.com

.Me hoopla and now this.

I love Rick ... I don't know what to make of his statement that it may present the biggest future threat to .COM

Anybody else think .CO will give .COM competition ?

I think his commissions are overpriced ... but he knows that ... whatever the market will bear is the rule.

.Com has been around since the advent of the internet. There's just too much ground to make up and not enough traction for CCtlds to compete with .COM at any point!

Only my humble opinion.

.co will certainly bring out the best of ugly cybersquatting. Not good at all...

This is gonna be a shit loadof bother for .com holders,

how many time have you typed in .co over the years ?

Where did it get you : Knowhere

Where will it get you now : Parking page/Someone elses site

I reckon every major .com thats gets squated could loose a small % of there traffic. and maybee a little % of there profit.

maybee not noticable to us small guys, but the big companies may notice.

it's definetly a threat, as .co goes for company and .com commercial.

how big a threat ? (not to big i think)

.co sucks. .cm FTW!

Both will be all about typos and phishing and neither will have one iota of credibility left within a week; even the 'premium' names will be next to worthless. Caveat emptor!

I agree .co is worthless outside typos unless you have a site in Colombia. This will be the most confusing extension to remember, no-one in the right mind will want to promote a site on it.

Another example of why ICANN is a big joke. They MUST know that there will be a typo issue.

Does ICANN get any money from the WIPO filing fees?

.CO will never replace .COM because people that promote it will lose visitors to .COM. It won't be the other way around.

If the prices are low, I think there will be hundreds of thousands of registrations, or even million+ within just days.

Also, some generic keywords would be valuable, since they would receive typo traffic from people looking for .com. They'd be valuable for domain parking only, but not for being developed.

lol...not bad enough that we get people squatting with typo names of TM's, now we will have people squatting with what amounts to two (.co/.cm) typo extensions of *the* top extension of them all.

Irony at it's finest.

No real shock as to why people don't take domainers seriously and consider the whole thing a bit dodgy really.

Typo haven, though wasn't the .cm contract dropped because of the non-profitability and the legal issues?

Lawyers must be licking their chops

I'll save up for the .coms, tyvm

Maybe Rick has invested heavily in .co and is looking to arbitrarly distort the market (by creating a domain rush)?

I don't see .co going anywhere; past evidence (of the majority of the 1,000,000,000,000 other TLDs/ccTLDs out there) would suggest to ignore the hype. Generalising a bit (i.e. .tv has done pretty well, etc) although the fact still remains that many new TLDs/ccTLDs don't go too far.

Why is this a big deal at all? Is .co any better than .om, the country code for Oman? How come we don't see WIPOs getting filed on .om domains or Rick Latona promoting them in his blog? It's time to get a life, folks

Edit: Scratch that. Second-level .om registrations aren't allowed.
