Google Wave: A Twitter Killer?

Just caught this news about Google Wave:

Official Google Blog: Went Walkabout. Brought back Google Wave.

I didn't view the hour-long video, but, apparently, Google Wave promises to become a one-stop platform for IM, real-time messaging (Twitter-esque), e-mail, photo sharing, document creation, and blogging.

That's a large claim, I think. Also, it appears that any Twitter takeover was just a dream.

But will Google Wave do my laundry? Cook my meals? Take care of me when I get sick?

I was reading this article about it before: Google Wave Drips With Ambition. A New Communication Platform For A New Web.

I watched the first twenty minutes of the video also, I must say it looks pretty good.

watch the entire video, until you've seen it you can't comment. The features are, well, they're truly amazing and I was extremely impressed. It's well worth the 80 minutes.

I really don't understand the buzz about Twitter. Maybe someone can explain it to me. What's so good about it? To me it looks like it is mainly used to post "marketing messages".

i don't think that people understand how the breadth and depth that google expands, how fast they adapt, and why they'll probably "stay on top." yes, being big helps, but it's much more than that.

Google always have the authority to make their programs progress better than any commonly set up sites. It will be no suprise if that new Google Wave would surpass other social networking sites.

Wow! I think there will be a lot of noise about it! If it has the same quality as other google products it wiil be obviously a succesful project. Twitter and Facebook are in danger....

Great seems like the same guys which developed Google maps are working on this, which is great!
Making it opensource was a smart idea if you ask me.

Anybody else think it's strange that this thread has a bunch of compliments about Google from brand-new NP members? Not that they'd stoop to pumping up their products on forums this way .... (right?)

I don't know why everyone thinks Twitter has no competition. Have you seen facebook lately? The main page is basically twitter. The only difference is that personal profiles are more complex.

Never used twitter even once. So it's killing nothing for me. There are only so many hours in the day and some of us have no time to waste twitting or tweeting or whatever it's dubbed...
