However, Network Solutions gives SnapNames subscribers preferred access to its expiring domain names. This means less waiting time and a much higher chance to get your name if it becomes available.

How It Works:
If you are the only back-order holder for a domain name currently registered at Network Solutions and the domain name later becomes available, you'll get the name for our low $60 success fee.
When there are other back-order subscribers, you'll automatically be entered into a short auction, where the winning bid replaces our success fee.

As for the level playing field......over 100 lawsuits against Verisign (Netsol shareholder) for this recent action would seem to put a bit of a dent in that statement.
