????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/industry-news/512097-us-government-sue-google-antitrust-suit.html Why is it very bad news? Google is actively trying to get themselves a monopoly. This is exactly what they have accused Microsoft of doing in the past. Google has major double standards and they need to be addressed in my opinion.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Nope, Google became a monopoly not because they were trying so hard to...it was more because their rivals suck. Google has shown many times they are into profit sharing (think Adsense, think Google.org), do you think Microsoft would do the same? I don't think so. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | No, i also think this is good news, and it dose not surprise me at all. Having a large monopoly control most of the internet advertising is just plain wrong, and it is one reason we are all seeing less revenue for parking etc. More competion equals better revenue for domain owners and webmasters in my opinion. You only have to see where this whole Google thing is presently going, the new chrome browser is just a taste of it, more advertising. You will also now notice that on many search results pages there are up to 5 paid results before the number 1 rank site is shown, how long before the whole first page is adds? I also believe the whole "paid links" thing that Google constantly penalises websites and webmasters with has become totally out of control, this a massive double standard on Googles part. They also offer very little, if any customer service, considering how much money they could afford for it, and quite frankly, i believe they have lost their core values and principals in search of the advertising dollar. This needed to happen, the sooner the better. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm aware many are not comfortable with Google's position, but it's also because Microsoft and Yahoo can't/won't put their act together for the life of them... Don't get me wrong, I am all for better competition for Google, but there is really none atm and probably not for a long time. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | There are obvious reasons why we have anti-monopoly laws. If you can't understand them then I suggest you do some reading about historical rulings and how they have effected their industry. In particular read about Standard Oil and AT&T. In the marketplace we can allow domination but we can't allow a full monopoly. There is a difference. One has market influence the other is market control. How would you define Google?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Google is the epitome of double standards, privacy law violations, HIPAA violations, unfair/unethical monopolistic tactics, etc. Indeed, they bought out anyone that could have potentially posed to be more creative than they are. Needless to say, without the wide spread developers network where people write their own apps in open source style, Google wouldn't be anywhere. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=512097 Google has understood one thing very well - everything has a price and everyone (with the exception of a few) is willing to sell out at some point. That's the ONE thing they're really good at. Rest assured, if they don't get their way, they will boycott you with their monopoly and/or engage you into endless lawsuits where you can't compete due to the value of the suit being way out of one's league... Bottom line: i'm usually not in favor of any government involvement, in this case though, it's been LONG overdue. Similar situation: a few years back, in Ohio, the FCC demanded that Clear Channel Communications sells stations in a market segment due to a monopoly situation - Google needs to have the same limitations imposed on them to enable fair competition and choices for the advertiser. Time to bring some reasonable business practices back to the online market. M. |

![]() | When Google became a public company, they had a lot more stress to make a profit and get all those people who bought shares in the initial IPO their money back as fast as possible. This is what happens when a company goes from private to public. They have millions of owners to please now who only care about the bottom line. The US government does need to step in before it gets out of control. |

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=512097 Not to mention, Google has the potential to arguably become the most dangerous monopoly in history. The access they have to people's data, search habits, and who knows what else is unprecedented. It wasn't that long ago that East Germany ruined people's lives with monitoring on a level that wasn't even close to what Google has on a growing percentage of our population. It is the US government's obligation to step-in. This isn't about them stomping on 'creativity'....for whoever said that. | ||||
