Is there something seriously wrong with the Domain industry?

Guys!!!!!

Just go to Alexa and check out the trend graphs(from Oct 07 till now) for anything-related-to-domaining.com's! There is a very dangerous decline in traffic ranking in almost every case. I have checked sedo, dnforum, namepros, afternic, namedrive, Parked, and many others, only to witness the drastic declines in rankings.

Implications?

Anytime the economy goes south there will be a trickle down effect.

The good part is there are some good deals to be had if you have the funds.

Only dangerous to people that don't develop domains and rely heavily on resale and parking.

Alexa changed the way it rankings work a while back which is probably playing a part. Generally the domain market has been in downturn since the start of the year though so general interest in going to wane with that.

So this trend shouldn't be a worry just as long as you aren't a domainer?

It could be that less domainers are putting alexa on their computers. You couldn't pay me to put it on one of my machines.

Absolutely. Right now is a time to take advantage of the fact that people are deciding to get out of the business, or cut their portfolios down.

As regards the decline within the domain industry, economy is definitely a major factor. But I tried to be over-smart and took some bad positions at the time when S&P was near 1350 and Bernanke was cutting rates in an emergency. Those were the days when Bear Stearns had collapsed and Fed was frentic about economic slow down, and I thought that people would pull out from stocks and bonds and would invest in domains; they instead went for oil.

Now I am fully convinced that domains move with stocks (and the economy of course). May be we'll see a "Domains 100 index" someday in near future LOL.

But are there any other factors too, besides economy?
