I would never mess with anything related to the Ol(y)mpics. Their sledge hammer makes M-soft and G-ogle look like a wet noodle.

or you can use some extreme "logic" and make creative claims that it has nothing to do with the athletes... just like these timely registrations: http://www.namepros.com/domain-appra...-appraise.html

i sure do... unless you're really considering a social network for people who have the last name "phelps" and invest in gold bullion... and can look a judge straight in the eye and say the timing of the registrations were just a coincidence, along with everything else.

shockie.....

i believe/have been told/have heard that as long as you do not monetize any such site.....you are ok...if it's strictly a fan site/shrine.....there are no issues....

even as a shrine it can be taken away... to be accurate, a shrine would only lessen the chances that you get your pants sued off of you, it doesn't lessen phelps' right to the domains you have.

so are you okay? no not really. are there issues? yes there are.

They wont take it if its a fan site because it would be bad publicity but they do have the right to.

Not entirely true.

there has been cases of well known celebrities trying to sue for their name or names that are linked to them and failed. In most cases, these sites were purely fansites and I believe no monetization directly linked to the celeb in question. It was judged that the names were not being used in bad faith i.e. parked purely for moneys sake.

here is a couple of links for you with a few cases that went both ways and make your mind up from there from this thread.
