RegisterFly rebranded to RegFly - ICANN Notice removed!

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
It looks like RegisterFly is trying to get back on their feet. The RegisterFly.com domain and all emails now take you to RegFly.com - with the ICANN termination notice removed.

If you notice, the footer now says "A service of Retail Web Group.", linking to http://www.retailweb.us/. What I find funny is that its registered by Robert O'Neill (regfly ceo) at GoDaddy....Not Registerfly! Plus his email contact is an "@hostflex.com" address - could this be another one of Regflys many spin off services?

I noticed the RegFly domain appear on an email from them a few days ago with their special offers.

If it is in fact under new management then they are going to have a hell of a job getting their reputation sorted out.

Watch this space!

Edit:
Just spoken to Robert O'Neill who apparently bought RegFly from Kevin in mid 2007:

You are now chatting with bob.
bob: hello how can i help you
ME: Hi, why has your company registerfly rebranded to regfly?
bob: did not know we where not allowed to rebrand
ME: I was just wondering what the reason was for the rebranding, is it to avoid having to keep the ICANN termination notice or something else?
bob: well the company was sold in aug of 07
bob: so its not the same owners
bob: or mngt
bob: the new owners will be moveing all services over to regfly.com
bob: as well as a new site design
bob: and more tools
bob: i belive the process has already started
bob: the icann termination notice has nothing to do with us any more
ME: Sold to who? Robert O'Neill (CEO) was in the picture before the sale, and is still the CEO of RegisterFly...I know Kevin is now gone, and hope you guys can get the place back. However people (including myself) still have funds in their accounts that cant be used....I cant do anything in my account as its all broken.
bob: that served for the domain registrar part of the company who we no longer own or do any thing with as those names where trasfered to go daddy
bob: yes
bob: yes i was the GM
bob: of rfly when we had the problems
bob: i came on in feb of 07
bob: i bought the company from kevin
bob: in aug
bob: well just the site
bob: as well as 2 other investors
bob: in hopes of rebuilding the brand
ME: Ahh ok...I remember you were trying to help out....so whats happening to kevin? Will he be taken to court or anything?
bob: kevin has had nothing to do with this company since july of 07
bob: not a clue
bob: what happned to him
bob: lol
ME: oh ok...well thanks for the insight. I wish you luck at rebuilding the brand. You've got a big job ahead of you!
bob: yes
bob: thanks
bob: we are trying
bob: as rfly still has the best interface
bob: in the biz

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Interesting news. It may take 3-4 years before they get their reputation back but it's always a consumer benefit that they try. Maybe some amazing deals will be offered. I still did well with many of their offerings even if I had to go through a lot of hassle.

It is funny when you google RegisterFly the 1st page only points to wikipedia or sites like registerfly-lawsuit.com.

Why on earth would he even want to try?

Why not just start with an entirely new name?

Rebuilding that heap of dung is pretty much pointless.

That's an understatement.

Well, good luck to them. That'll be quite a challenge, much more a feat if they
manage to pull it off successfully.

I think the guy is foolish to think that he can get the name back together. I would have just started over with a new name, different style site, similar interface. He would have done much better than what he wound up with. Not only is he going to have trouble drawing customers, but he's also going to have people trying to get their accounts straightened out. He says he doesn't have anything to do with it, but to me, if you bought the site, you bought the problems involved.

I am still getting renewal notices for names I tranferred away from RegisterFly a year ago.

I dont think its a bad idea. A lot of people know about registerfly. Not only because of its fallout or potential fraud., but because thousands of people used their services. They had a customer base of 900,000+ people, with over 2 million registrations. In this industry, the term Registerfly is very well known, and people know exactally what it is. If they are under new ownership, with new ways of doing things, why not?

I guess it's to stop Medina from stealing it when he pops in the office ~ I don't believe he's not involved somehow whatsoever ~ I see Medinas still selling his stolen names via his other racket site credonic.com

I will agree at one time they had about the best interface in the business until it broke trying to make it do both ICANN reg names and reseller enom names at the same time. There is some value in the software interface if it were brought up to date and had a makeover to look different than RF.

However, using anything to do with the name registerfly or anything close to it is just plain stupid. No amount of promotion can overcome the bad PR and links that will be searchable for years to come. There are certain names like enron, hitler, registerfly, etc. that have such bad associations you can't overcome. In this industry Regfly is one of them. Not a very smart marketer in my opinion.

I have seen some registration sites have their name at another registrar. In the case of regfly, it's probably because they are not ICANN accredited and have no choice. For others it's a safety/redundancy issue so that if someone hacks their servers they don't take down their site and their name. If registered elsewhere, they can get a backup site up quickly while fix their servers with the domain still active. In a similar way, if you have email from the same domain you own and the domain goes off, you won't get email to notify you. A good reason to never use an email address in the whois of the same domain name. If it expires, you won't get email notifying you.

yeah, I don't see how they are going to bounce back, no good domainer is going to go back with them, even if its the laast register around (which it will never be ;))

for the last year I been getting notices of renewals for domains I don't have there (moved to godaddy) and for domains that just simply don't have anywhere. I've emailed them several times and told them to take me off the list, that I am not a customer there anymore and that I don't want to hear from them.. but nope.. nothing.. so for now all their emails are going into the spam folder... I am getting sick and tired of checking my email everyday and seeing renewal notices of domains I don't even have there.

While their interface was OK they were full of bugs. When I started noticing the holes I began to transfer away as it became clear it was a dangerous place to keep valuable domains, and that was way before the meltdown. By then everybody knew they were utter crap but some people wouldn't listen...
But I hoped that we would be done with them - I am tired of receiving their spam too. What going on with the lawsuit ?

Also I fully agree it's a bad move to stick with names that are associated to fraud and demise. Likewise be careful with your registrations and stay away from questionable domains like insect names or anything similar :hehe:

I got the spam and renewal notices to me stopped. Based on another post suggestion, I changed the email address in my old registerfly account to [email protected]. It seems to have worked, and I hope it overloads their mailbox and mail servers.
:)

Odds are, they don't monitor that address though...

Let me tell you guys!

Regfly.com = registerfly.com = Kevin Medina

Robert o'Neill is no different person but he is very much with Kevin and they are ready to scam peoples yet again!

Robert was the one behind the scenes when Kevin was busy playing dirty games!

Kevin has other companies as well which takes payment on behalf of registerfly hosting. One of them is their hosting wing! Unfortunately I cant disclose it!

Justin has posted one of those names in his other post regarding Kevin and he is absolutely right about that!

Boss, he has those billions he stole from innocent clients and his partner John! Why should he be worried about starting a new venture when innocent guys are still paying him for the renewals and transfers?

big news for us ,Thanks very much

I have no sympathy for the guy if he was the one who was scamming people of course. I posted that before it was revealed that he was in on the whole RegFly deal. At that time, it was thought that he was just a buyer, not a participant in the fiasco.
