![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Domain costs may start rising due to ICANN budget request. ICANN recently announced their hefty budget request with large increases coming from registrars. The 75 smaller registrars have banded together to propose an alternate budget here: http://www.icannbudget.org/ If ICANN get's there way, registrars who now pay about $4000 to $6000 to be a registrar may be paying $25,000+ next year, plus get an increase in costs of about $.07-.08 per domain paid to ICANN for every registration. It seems the larger registrars don't mind so much hoping it puts some smaller ones out of business bringing less competition and possibly higher prices. This a a small cost to them. As I see it, it could maybe bring domain costs for large registrars up $.25 or so, and even more for smaller ones. I can forsee the $6.95 domain either becoming $7.19 or more freebies becoming add-ons. It probably would also hurt the registrars that have been set up just to catch domains for other registrars and drop services. Although prices there have already risen dramatically in the last month or so. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/industry-news/38106-domain-costs-may-start-rising-due.html This could just lead to a shake-up or mergers in registrars, higher prices, or both.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hopefully it won't go up so much. $25 a year for a domain, sounds a bit crazy for even kids who buy domains.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Interesting stuff! ![]() Naturally, I'd like to pay even less than I do now (typically $8.95/per), but I started out way back when Network Solutions actually sent me invoices (in the mail) for $70.00 for a two-year registration period (per domain name)! ![]() So, if it turns out to be even a small increase, I am still HiP with the general level of pricings, driven down by heavy competiton over the recent years.

![]() ![]() ![]() | They used to be free, then they were $50 a year for, then $35. At this point Verisign is getting $6 a name, that is clearly more then this is worth, given that the registars that deal with more customers and such are able to do so with sometimes only .49 markup. This should be dropped to $4 with $1 of the difference going to ICANN and the other $1 lowering the price of domains.
