I think some .mobi haters are just pathetics.

They wait every single little opportunity to just start all over the same arguments.

First they said it will never be worth anything that extension.

Then after hundreds of good sales , they just wait this auction to say that the bubble is bursting?

I just can`t read such BS anymore.

Names as Scotland.com , SIX.com , 62.com , Commodities.com, Cats.com and more ARE UNSOLD.

So, please…..Domain Name Wire ….just be realistic: it`s not a .mobi bubble burst but rather you can`t exepct to find MILLIONS $$$ for every domain just because it is for sale. Who were the buyers this time and who were at the other traffic auctions? And plus you can`t expect that just a few bunch of investors or rich annoyed people that just want that domain is willing to buy all domains offered.
Maybe the whole industry should think how to move ahead and do not pretend to ask millions for everything without not even being able to explain who is going to be targeted as buyers, which domains are offered and why….plus so many other things that people don`t get to know because only the money seem to be important. Well, keep things this way and I won`t be surprised if the whole domain industry will implode pretty soon, not just .mobi

In general I agree, but in this case I don't think it was just the high reserves, it was the audience.

Affiliates (the ones who are serious enough to attend the conference) have done very well for years either building natural traffic or converting traffic they buy. As a whole, that market hasn't bought into direct navigation yet and there's a big backlash of feeling against domainers who "register all the good names", don't "do anything" with them (i.e. don't build a "real web site") and ask "outrageous prices" (i.e. significantly more than reg. fees) for them.

Not a good audience for a premium domain auction, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a decent number of low-figure sales in the silent.

Just for some perspective:

The first Moniker TRAFFIC auction had sales in the range of 45K TOTAL...

Furthermore, doing 250K in domain sales in two hours is more effective by far, both in terms of average and gross, than any other domain sales environment.

In fact, we are not disappointed regarding last night’s results, because going into the event we set the expectations appropriately.

Last night’s auction was the first event that focused on the Affiliate community. Just as was the case with other specialized markets, Moniker has the responsibility of educating the Affiliate market about the value of domains. Last night’s event was a giant first step forward to achieving that goal.

The silent auction results just went out to the lucky ones who made a sale ...

Looks like the silent auction may have outdone the live one! I counted 112 names on the list - big ones were Passover[dot]com at 100K and pay[dot] mobi at 50K, FileCabinet [dot]com at 47K ... a couple more 5 figure sales (2 of them mobis - mobi fans will be happy!), plenty of 4 figure ones.

Two for me on the silent auction, both at the $300 range... but I'm pretty happy with the results I suppose. I haven't really given too much attention to the auctions in the past because most of my names are in the "better to develop" genre... but it's sort of interesting to see what goes and what doesn't.

I agree. There has to be some value proposition. Whether it be real estate or web-estate, there has to be some marketing behind any sale. Just throwing something out there hoping that someone will buy it, is a bit unrealistic and probably naive. Auction companies should realize this, even if the seller does not.
