If you wondered what the price would be for a more professionally-run Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), you can see it now in black-and-white figures.

The Internet-overseeing organisation has released its proposed budget (available here (PDF)) for 2004-5 and it is almost double taht of last year. Administering the Internet next year will apparently cost $15,834,000 - up $7.56m on last year's budget of $8.27m - or a 91.4 per cent increase.

hmmm....

ICANN will now charge a set fee when a domain is registered, transferred or renewed. It will be 25 cents each time.

Yes, some of the smaller registrars like directi are trying to fight this by raising awareness since it will require them to raise their prices

i knew of this tax long ago..
no biggie, just less profit margins for the registrars

Also, 2x more $$ is quite a bit in % wise... I don't think they need to spend that much?

Especially when you compare it to the budgets of others, i think this new 'budget' is way outta whack.
