6-Figure Sale of MovieRentals.com Heads New DNJournal Top 20

The new weekly domain sales report is out at DNJournal.com. We rushed the column out early this week because I have to leave very early today for the long trip from Florida to Seattle for this week's Domain Roundtable conference.

Another nice six-figure domain sale heads our new leader board, the 15th reported sale at that level so far in 2006. SnapNames made that big sale and had a huge week, claiming 14 of the 20 entries on our new chart.

.Net had the top two domains on our Global Contenders chart but .org had the most overall entries with ten. .Info also enjoyed one of it's best weeks of the year.

There was also a lot of variety on the new Country Codes chart including 5 Canadian .ca domains and 4 each from Germany's .de and Great Britain's .co.uk. .US also scored with a $2,500 3-letter domain sale.

In addition to our usual weekly report, if you check out our YTD Charts page, you will find links to our first expanded quarterly charts for 2006, listing almost every key sale in each category in the first quarter of 2006.

I mentioned Domain Roundtable above. The conference runs Wednesday through Friday. Action is non-stop during show days but I will try to post a daily item from Seattle each evening in our Lowdown section. When I get back from the conference, we'll spend several days putting together a comprehensive show wrap-up that will be published on our home page April 27.

Why would someone want that? I don't think it's worth that much money.

Agreed. Rentals will be history in two years as more and more people will be downloading movies.

Amazing how short-sighted some businesspeople are.

I'm with the consensous on this one...the trend is leaning towards downloading and movies on demand media structures...can't see how the new owners are going to be able to make back their up front purchase costs...a huge gamble, but when you have the means....

totally legit

I think people still like to have the actual DVD of the movie they want to watch. Many people dont have things conveniently set up to watch them on their computers. If you look at how well net flix is implementing this you would realize that it was probably a smart buy. The type in traffic alone will probably pay for it when bidding wars heat up between blockbuster online and netflix.

There are alot of HUGE sales going on that totally beat that and will never grace that fine paper, but I am totally glad to see someone is making money selling names.

Won't they just rent them i.e. download them from the internet.
