| I'm sure Microsoft was aware of John Wall's co before they landed on Vista as the name for their new OS. (BTW, "Longbranch" was always designated as the working title of the new OS, and never considered to be the name that would be used.) I don't know how large Wall's co is, but if I were him, I'd be jumping for joy over the news, and imagine that his "terse comments" are merely a pre-discussions front. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/industry-news/109332-ms-vista-in-trouble.html As far as speculating is concerned, (varying degrees of), risk goes w/ the territory. Risk is weighed against the potential rewards and is relative to the cutoff point of acceptable loss. I have treaded lightly w/ Vista, due more to getting a late start, (by 3das), and not being able to find enough "2nd round pick-ups" or "1st round misses", that I felt would warrant more risk. I got into LED, RFID, Mobi, "Blink" tech, ogg and a few other emerging areas, well ahead of the curve, and was willing to risk more funds there, because of the broader selection avail due to arriving early. (Of course, the difficulty w/ getting in early, is that there is less assurance that the category you are in, is actually viable, at all, and if it's an extremely new technology, finding enough useful info to figure out how the technology will be applied and what names will be the most relevant for it's future uses. To my mind, risking the expense of reg fees, for a year or two, for domain name's that relate to a new Microsoft OS, (that may or may not be w/ us for years), particularly when the OS name associates well w/ an existing mark- eg "Windows" : "Vista"- is a risk worth taking. However, and I say this in all sincerity, I do give alot of creedence to some of my dreams, as axilant has done. O.o.

2)Microsoft will continue to trim away at their new OS, aka Vista, continue lowering their expectations of bringing out a system w/ dramatically new architecture, (particularly the file system and how it is queried), leaving us w/ a new product that will be more like XP on steroids than a substantially new OS. 3)Somewhere in between. Interesting year ahead for Microsoft and the entire technological landscape, for that matter. Should supply a wealth of oppurtunity for new domains that correspond to the emerging tech.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Survey: Did you get in on the Vista-Name Rush? This will be interesting: http://www.rednova.com/news/display/...e=r_technology Jul. 24--By naming the next version of Windows "Vista," Microsoft may have stepped on the toes of another software company just down the road in Redmond. That would be Vista, a business software and services company founded in 1999 by John Wall. He was not amused when Microsoft announced its choice yesterday, setting the stage for a massive rollout when its flagship operating system goes on sale in fall 2006. Wall, a well-known technology executive in the area who earlier founded Wall Data, is examining whether the name violates the trademark his company has held for six years. He plans to raise the issue with Microsoft, a company notoriously protective of its own trademarks, and may take the issue to court. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=109332 "We're going to consider our options and talk to them," he said tersely. But some naming experts applauded Microsoft's decision. They said it was wise to move away from odd letter combinations such as "XP" to an understandable word with positive connotations. Yet the name may matter less than Microsoft's clout. "If they called it Windows Garbage, would people still buy it? Yeah, they'd buy it," said David Burd, owner of The Naming Co. in East Stroudsburg, Pa. "They've got something like 90 percent penetration in the world of operating systems."

umm.... i don't, look at it this way, bill gates donates ABOUT the same amount of money to africa and charities as the usa GOV! he donates a huge amount of his wealth to extremely good causes. And the more wealthy he gets the more he donates, i truely cannot say the same thing for other companies to be honest, he is a rich simple man which i like and he cares about the world for real and not just for the PR (as some actors and actresses do )So i am proud to pay for my windows, ms office pro in full knowing that in someway SOME OF my money will also end up going to a good cause. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=109332 Btw. Grrilla , you ever considered being a song writer or a singer, in most threads yu tend to come up with songs lol , just wanted to know if its a hobby or what

Just a phase that I've never grown out of. I'm one of those guys that whistles while he works and sings to the birds every morning, but I'm really quite harmless, or that's what they tell me anyways. heeheeeheeee... ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=109332 However, I did manage to squeeze a prescription for a new med out of my doctor, which is supposed to help modify this embarrasing behavior, which hopefully, will only occasionally spill out, down here in the bowels of NP, where it belongs. FYI, in this thread, I have only been doing "covers" and I haven't used any of my own material, *yet*, that is.
