![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | In Canada: Cache a page, go to jail? A bill before Canada's Parliament could make it illegal for search engines to cache Web pages, critics say, opening the door to unwarranted lawsuits and potentially hindering public access to information. The legislation in question, Bill C-60, is designed to amend Canada's Copyright Act by implementing parts of the 1996 World Intellectual Property Organization treaty, the treaty that led to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act in the U.S. Complete article. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | DNS lookup of every IP? That wouldn't work though since most sites in Canada are hosted on foreign servers. This bill may not be passed..

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I doubt this bill would pass. The government has just emerged from one of the tightest political years where they've faced a number of problems. This is likely not a priority IMHO .True_Snake

![]() ![]() | Archive.org ais already in problems with some medical firm for providing cached pages from their old sites. I dont think anything will happen to giants like google and yahoo... I mean these guys always find a way to bend the laws and escape from the trouble. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Excellent! Since web browsers automatically cache every page that is visited everyone in the world can sue every single Canadian who visits their web site. I'm going to go out and register a bunch of beaver and moose related names right now to “cache” in on this. |

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=107895 How about just not coming up with crappy laws to begin with? Socialism loves governmental control and dependance, but Canadia is just being ridiculous if they think this is a good idea. | ||||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm not a huge fan of the Canadian government right now by any means but I'd doubt that this bill would pass. I can see where they have an idealized vision of "protecting" companies from lawsuits (like we've seen with the Archive.org case) but other than that the law comes off as pretty silly. If this law were passed then I'd think caching pages in your browser would become illegal (depending upon the wording, of course) which could really cause a problem. |
